Urban Roots Farm Volunteer Day

March 7, 2020 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM (CST)

Description

The Leadership Service Committee is providing you an opportunity to give back! Roll your sleeves up, get ready to get a little dirty, and assist on the Urban Roots farm! Urban Roots invites you to step away from your daily life and visit our farm, located 15 minutes from Austin’s downtown. You will soak up the sun, get a little muddy, and help support their mission. Spots are limited and registration is required. Please Note: You will be redirected to the Volunteer Sign-up Eventbrite for Urban Roots Farm (see directions below).

About Urban Roots
Urban Roots uses food and farming to transform the lives of young people and inspire, engage, and nourish the community. They believe that empowered youth can nourish our community in so many ways, and they are thrilled to be celebrating 10 years of this work. By engaging youth leaders on their 3.5 acre farm in East Austin, they create a safe place where young people can experience first-hand the transformational power of meaningful hard work in order to become healthy, productive, civically-engaged community members.

Additional Details
Think safety, sun, and comfort! We work rain or shine, so please wear weather-appropriate clothes and closed-toe shoes. Bring sunscreen and bug-spray if you’ll need it.

Bring a refillable water bottle– the farm has drinking water available, but they do not provide cups. Urban Roots provides work gloves that you can borrow but feel free to bring your own. For safety and sanitary reasons, we ask that you do not bring dogs to the farm.

Location

Urban Roots Farm

The Urban Roots farm is located at 7651 Delwau Lane, in East Austin near the intersection of Bolm Road and 183. If Google Maps proves confusing, here are some driving directions. We also highly encourage volunteers to consider biking to the farm.

Due to ongoing construction on highway 183, travel to the farm may take longer than anticipated. Please check for road closures & detours prior to traveling out to the farm: 183 South Construction Project

Parking
Please observe all signage and park along the road as far onto the north shoulder of the road as possible. Walk down to the entrance of our farm by the Urban Roots sign and walk onto the farm via our driveway. Please do not park in front of our neighbors’ homes or walk through their yards on your way to the farm. Thank you for helping us value and respect their privacy.
